Laura (she/her)- Owner & Instructor

Describe your pole or aerial style

Everything flowy, I love the movements in between the poses. I love working to create seamless transitions and dance through my movements. My dance background is mostly ballet so I often have a mixture of contemporary and ballet styles that influence my movement qualities. Creativity is the key so I love exploring different ways to combine traditional concepts of dance with aerial arts.

Dance or fitness history

My dance background consists of classical ballet and community theatre. I danced in multiple ballet schools, predominantly the school of Ballet Oklahoma, now known as Oklahoma City Ballet.  I trained at the school and performed in annual productions such as the Nutcracker.

In college I found a passion for community theatre and dance and completed a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Theatre. While in college I worked with the universities dance department as well as local theatre companies. I love working with other artist, dancers, and choreographers as there is always something new to learn.

I started taking pole fitness classes in college as a way of getting in shape and found something I truly love. Pole gave me the confidence to explore other circus arts such as hammock, silks, and lyra and now I am totally hooked.

What are your fitness goals

Aerial arts are an ever-expanding field of study, my goals are to become a better version of myself through each class I take or teach and to work more with other artists to create new pieces of art and collaborative works.

What do you love about being an instructor

I love developing relationship with my students and watching them grow. Aerial arts are difficult, and it takes a lot of trust in oneself to take on a new move or competition and that’s what I love; giving to my students that sense of confidence that they are capable of anything. It is amazing to watch a student develop the confidence to take on their first performance, and then their first solo, and then before you know it, they are creating collaborative works of art and performing like it’s second nature and that is an amazing thing to watch.

What is the best tip you can give to your students

Be patient, nothing in aerial arts is easy and it all takes time and dedication. Students are often their own worst critics and that can be a hard thing to overcome so take it easy and understand, as with anything, there are good days and bad days but overall progress is still growth even if it feels small.

Barefoot or Heels

While I enjoy both, I tend to be barefoot far more often then in heels.
